Junior Golf Tournaments Around Australia — September to December 2026
Where Young Golfers Can Play, Compete and Grow Their Game
The final months of 2026 offer plenty of opportunities for junior golfers across Australia.
For some young players, this might mean stepping into a major multi-day championship. For others, it may simply be their first 9-hole event or their first tournament away from their home club.
Both matter.
Tournament golf teaches young players how to prepare, manage nerves, recover from mistakes, respect other competitors and experience the game outside normal lessons and practice.
Here are some of the junior events coming up around Australia.
Queensland

20–22 September 2026 — Maroochy River Golf Club

Ian Baker-Finch Junior Classic
25 October 2026 — Twin Waters Golf Club
Another Queensland event carrying the name of one of Australia's major championship winners. It's an excellent opportunity for junior golfers to experience competition on a highly regarded Sunshine Coast course.

New South Wales
Jack Newton International Junior Classic
6–9 October 2026 — Cypress Lakes Golf & Country Club
This is one of Australia's most recognised junior championships.
The event attracts strong young golfers from across Australia and internationally. GolfWA has confirmed its 2026 representatives will compete at Cypress Lakes from 6–9 October, describing it as one of Australia's premier junior events.
For a young golfer aspiring towards elite junior competition, this is exactly the type of tournament that can provide valuable experience against players from outside their normal state or club environment.
Victoria
Victorian Junior Open
September 2026
Golf Australia's national calendar includes the Victorian Junior Open as a significant boys' and girls' Junior Order of Merit event during September.
Victoria also has an extensive junior tournament schedule during the school holiday period, including junior opens, district events and TeeMates competitions. Golf Australia's calendar lists events including the Warragul Junior Classic, South-Western Junior Open, National Junior Classic and Mornington Peninsula Junior Open around this period.
This is a good example of why junior golf doesn't need to begin at the elite level. There are pathways for golfers at different stages of development.
Western Australia
Drummond Golf 54-Hole Junior Classic
30 September–2 October 2026
This is one of Western Australia's major junior championships and is played across three golf courses over three days:
30 September — Capel Golf Club
1 October — Dunsborough Lakes Golf Club
2 October — Busselton Golf Club
The format is 54-hole stroke play, and GolfWA describes the event as a state and national ranking tournament and one of WA's prestigious junior events.
The published handicap limits are 27.0 for boys and 36.0 for girls.
TeeMates South West Tour
30 September–2 October 2026
Running alongside the 54-hole championship is a much more accessible pathway for younger golfers.
GolfWA's TeeMates Tour is aimed at golfers aged roughly 6–12 and is designed as a friendly introduction to competitive golf.
The 2026 WA calendar also includes TeeMates events at:
Sea View Golf Club — 27 September
Marangaroo Golf Course — 8 October
Royal Perth Golf Club — 25 October
Mandurah Country Club — 15 November
The Western Australian Golf Club — 29 November
Lake Karrinyup Country Club — 21 December
This is particularly important because not every junior golfer needs to start with an 18-hole championship.
A shorter, friendly tournament can be the perfect first step.
South Australia
TeeMates — Aston Hills Golf Club
9 October 2026
South Australia's TeeMates calendar includes a 9-hole and 18-hole event at Aston Hills Golf Club.
The competition is open to junior amateur golfers under 18, and an official handicap is not required for all divisions.
TeeMates Par 3 Event
6 November 2026 — North Adelaide Par 3 Golf Course
The November event allows young golfers to choose between 9-hole and 18-hole formats.
Golf Australia's conditions specifically recommend the 9-hole option for many younger players aged 6–9, although they may choose the longer event.
These events demonstrate something important about junior golf development: competition can start well before a young golfer is ready for a full championship course.
Tasmania
Golf Australia's event calendar shows further junior activity in Tasmania during the spring period, including TeeMates junior events and the Southern Country Junior Championship.
Tasmania's junior pathway is particularly useful for families who want young golfers to progress gradually—from introductory golf into 9-hole competition and eventually full tournament golf.
It's Not Just About Winning
Junior tournaments shouldn't only be judged by the final leaderboard.
For a young golfer, success might mean:
entering their first competition;
completing their first tournament round;
breaking 100, 90 or 80;
making their first tournament birdie;
controlling their emotions after a bad hole;
making new friends; or
simply wanting to come back and play again.
Those milestones matter.
And over several years they start to tell the story of a golfer's development.
